APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes of the meeting of December 17, 2013 were approved as submitted.
Richard Morrison introduced new board member Dr. Terry Hitch, with her swearing in. Dr. Hitch accepted the oath.
BUDGET UPDATE AND REVIEW:
Mr. William Moser presented budget data for February.
Pam Phillips reported that Lee Winters of Wells Fargo Bank requested the Article of Incorporation. He is still in the process of putting together a package for SCWS.
The Service Agreement with Kelley/Moser is up for 3 year renewal. No changes to be made. Bill Robinson moved to approve. Pam Phillips seconded the motion. All approved.
BOARD EMAIL ADDRESSES:
Ellen Ray discussed the school email addresses. Some board members are not receiving school email through a school email address. It was determined that each board member will set up their own rules of forwarding email.
John Loveday updated the board on the Spring HSAP testing. For the school report card, we must have 95% participation of the 71 first time test takers. 31 of those were enrolled prior to 45 day count and their scores will be reflected in our school report card. Dr. Hitch had questions on our accommodations for Special Education students. We are in compliance and the district has approved alternative test days for those students requiring individualized testing.
EOC testing is in May.
STUDENT OF MONTH:
John also discussed recognition of the Student of the Month beginning in February. Teachers and staff vote on student for outstanding attendance and academics. The student is recognized on our website, Facebook Page, Twitter, and through a school-wide announcement. This has been favorably received by stake holders.
Ebone’ says graduation this year will be at the new Chapin Town Hall, June 7 at 11 am. Invitations will go out to board members. To date, there are 24 seniors who plan to participate. There are 69 students with senior status, and 17 of those are students graduating a year early.
Shelly Sasser is student of year and will be singing the National Anthem at graduation.
Senior Day is planned for April 25 at Riverbanks Zoo.
The Board will hold a lunch meeting after graduation. There was discussion of a suitable location.
Ellen Ray reported an ADM of 238 students. The budget is based on an ADM of 246 and it is likely that we will attain that ADM by the Day 135 count.
OTHER BUSINESS: Withdrawing students for attendance violations is ongoing. Because we are at capacity enrollment, students are enrolled from the waiting list in the order in which they completed their enrollment documentation. There was discussion of an incident with irate parents, whose son had been withdrawn for attendance violations. John Loveday felt the need to call the Chapin Police to be present while the parents came to pick up their child’s records. The parents picked up the records and there was no altercation. Mrs. Ray mailed a summary of the event to Samuel Mokeba, legal counsel. No further action is anticipated. It was discussed that we will keep the school doors locked at all times.
ADJOURNMENT: Richard Morrison thanked everyone for attending and dismissed the meeting.
